Solar Water Pumping is one of the most effective and affordable ways to move water more efficiently. Solar water pumps are often used in remote areas where the cost of running traditional water piping is cost prohibitive or you just want to provide water to an off the grid home. Solar water pumping systems are also used to pump water for livestock and crop irrigation.

These pumping systems are intended to be used only when the sun shines. The more sunlight, the more water is pumped (this is ideal for stock watering and irrigation). Water is pumped even on hazy days.

There are no storage batteries, so as soon as the sun goes away, the power stops. If water is what you need, why bother with batteries? Water tanks are far cheaper than battery banks, and last for decades. These systems work well as long as you can store enough water to get you, your plants, and your animals through periods of no sun. PV-direct pumping is not used to provide domestic water pressure, but usually to fill a tank. Gravity or a separate, inexpensive water pressure-pump system is instead used to push stored water to your household faucets, shower, etc.

Selecting a solar powered pond pump as an alternative to a wired pump can save money in the long run. It also makes it a lot easier to start a pond at home. There’s no need for mains socket and there’s no wiring needed. After the valves are connected, all you need to do is put the solar panel in a spot that attracts the most sun (or just decent light) during the day. And because you are setting yourself free from the power grid, you save money on electricity.
